Graduate Research Integrity Program (GRIP)
The Graduate Research Integrity Program (GRIP) is a program designed to provide all graduate students at Memorial University with the knowledge to make informed decisions on integrity issues commonly encountered in scholarship and the research process. GRIP is an initiative of the School of Graduate Studies and is Memorial's response to the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Integrity in Research and Scholarship (January 1994). This policy recommends that institutions that administer the Councils' funds establish programs to educate researchers on the principles and practices of integrity in research and scholarship.
GRIP is a program requirement for students who began a graduate program in Fall 2002, or later.
Goal and Objectives
GRIP's goal is to make explicit the implicit code of ethical conduct by which responsible research is designed, conducted, and reported. Its specific objectives are to help graduate students:
- understand the importance of integrity in research;
- identify and analyze integrity issues in research; and
- determine how to act responsibly when confronted by an integrity issue in research.
Topics
GRIP examines the following five integrity topics:
- Graduate Student-Faculty Relationship
- Sensitivity to Human Subjects
- Sensitivity to Animals and the Environment
- Ownership and Acknowledgement
- Data Collection, Storage, and Access
