students with disabilities within an integrated Student Affairs
and Services model.
- Academic Accommodations
An Academic Accommodation is a modification or extension of University resources, or of teaching or evaluation procedures, which is designed to accommodate the particular needs of a student with a disability without compromising academic integrity of the course, program, or assignment. Reasonable accommodations are provided at the University in accordance with the Policy on Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities. - Adaptive Technology and Equipment
For students with disabilities, adaptive technology and equipment can foster greater independence in the learning environment. These technologies accommodate, replace, or augment sensory and motor functions of users with disabilities. - Campus Physical Accessibility
The Blundon Centre provides and co-ordinates a variety of services for students that pertain to the physical accessibility of the St. John’s campus (e.g., an on-campus transportation system, wheelchair desks, keys to wheelchair elevators, etc.). The Centre also collaborates with faculty, staff, students, etc., to develop and disseminate guidelines and other resources regarding campus accessibility issues (e.g., Campus Accessibility Guide, Fire and Emergency Evacuation Procedures for Persons with Disabilities, Web Accessibility tips, etc.). In addition, the Centre monitors physical accessibility issues and facilitates campus improvements. - Consultation for Faculty, Staff, and
Students
The Blundon Centre provides consultation for faculty, staff, and students on accommodation issues. - Financial Assistance
There are a number of financial assistance programs available to students with disabilities to help cover additional expenses such as adaptive technology, special equipment, or support services such as tutors.
