Introduction to Gender Awareness
The following discussion of masculinity is the first in
what will eventually become a series of discussions on gender as it
relates to sexual harassment.Because sexual harassment can stem from our conceptualizations of gender, no sexual harassment awareness or education program is complete without a discussion of how we perceive women and men in our society - and how these often stereotypical perceptions can influence the ways that we behave towards people of the same or other sex.
The discussions that appear in the Gender Awareness Pages are designed only to make you think about gender and how it may influence your daily lives and relationships.
In other words, it is hoped that they will make you more reflective about the ways that you relate to others through gender and because of gender.
They are not necessarily the last words on this topic. Instead, they represent a fraction of the knowledge that exists about gender as a result of 3 decades of social science research.
