Counselling Centre

Research at the University Counselling Centre generally takes the form of either program evaluation or studies designed to describe and characterize specific populations. Studies which have been completed or are in progress over the past ten years include assessments of Centre programes (e.g., medical resident training programe and the associated interface between the University Counselling Centre and the Family Practice internship training programe, test anxiety programe, academic support programes), assessments of the effectiveness of orientation activities on various subpopulations of entering students, a description of the mature student population at Memorial, a characterization of drinking and drug use behaviors at Memorial, multiple surveys of rank and tenure issues in counselling centres across North America, a study of profeminist males, a study of predoctoral internship programmes at a North American university, a study of professionalization of counselling centres throughout North America, and a study of the experiences of stepmothers from both cross sectional and longitudinal perspectives.
