Geography

The Department of Geography is involved in research on a wide range of problems concerned with the patterns and interactions of physical and human elements in the earth system. Areas of emphasis include: late-glacial and recent environmental change in northeastern Canada; wildlife and fisheries habitat studies; environmental and social impact studies relating to resources; exploration, migration, and settlement; cultural and social landscapes; and new approaches to quantitative spatial analysis. Common to all of this research is the analysis and presentation of spatially arranged data. The department has state-of-the-art facilities and support for geographical research and applications in its remote sensing and geographical information systems laboratory (GEOIDAL), and cartographic design and production facility (MUNCL).
