Office of Research

Overview

The Office of Research oversees Memorial University's research effort, which annually draws approximately $35 million in external support.

As a service to faculty, the Office of Research maintains information on research in progress at Memorial, as well as current data on some 500 programs of funding from over 150 agencies and organizations.

Functions

The most visible function of the Office of Research is its role as a liaison with the national granting councils and other funding organizations. This role includes:

The office also provides administrative support to the Senate Committee on Research, and co-ordinates a number of internally adjudicated competitions for research funding.

The office also fosters the university research effort through the periodic offering of seminars and workshops and through the organization of visits from officials of granting councils and other agencies.

Publications

The Office of Research publishes a Research Directory, listing the expertise and research interests of faculty members at Memorial. The printed form of the directory is distributed to researchers, government, business and media. The online version is available on the Research web site.

The Inventory of Sponsored Projects is published annually, listing all research projects conducted with funding from external and internal sources. The Office also maintains an online listing of funding sources for researchers on its web site.

The Office of Research publishes a newsletter, entitled Research Matters.

Research promotion

The Communications Co-ordinator (Research) promotes awareness of research activities at Memorial to internal and external audiences. In collaboration with University Relations, the Communications Co-ordinator circulates information on research within the university and to local, regional, national and international communities through a variety of publications and other media.
