Memorial University has established a Research Council that will provide a university-wide forum on research and scholarship policy issues.
The council will advise the vice-president (research and international relations) and members of the senior executive committee on new research and scholarship initiatives, research policies and the impact of the policies and actions of national granting councils on research and development at Memorial. It will promote short and long term research objectives, as well as identify mechanisms to increase Memorial's range and quality of research initiatives.
The council's mandate also includes identifying new research initiatives and funding sources; promoting interdisciplinary research programs and projects; and acting as a catalyst for promoting technology and expertise transfer to the community.
Chaired by the vice-president, the Research Council will be made up of deans and directors in Memorial's faculties and schools, including the Marine Institute and Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. The council will meet three times a year.
