A Life Composed
This volume celebrates the life and work of Helen and Reginald Shepherd and at the same time assesses their contribution to the visual arts in Newfoundland. Reginald and Helen Shepherd were awarded honorary doctor of laws degrees at a special convocation in October 1988 marking the opening of the School of Fine Arts at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College.
Reginald Shepherd and Helen Parsons Shepherd: A Life Composed is edited by Dr. Ronald Rompkey of Memorialís English Department. The book features dozens of images from the work of the pair. Dr. Rompkey also contributed the introduction while local authors Peter Gard, J. M. Sullivan, Lisa Moore and Anne Pratt contributed chapters. Dr. Rompkey said the book revisit the post-Confederation artistic milieu and demonstrates what it takes to make a career in the arts.
