The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at Memorial University of Newfoundland is searching for an internationally recognized scientist to fill a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Photonics. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Physics or a closely-related discipline, a strong publication record, and the potential to lead in their research field(s). The successful nominee will be expected to develop a world-class externally-funded research program and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the Chair will be expected to build upon existing institutional strengths and to foster both intra and interdisciplinary research collaborations, particularly with the Department's photonics researchers and with an anticipated Chair in Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Design to be based in Memorial University's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. The appointment will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with the possibility of a cross or joint appointment with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. The Department has strong externally-funded research programs in experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics and physical oceanography. The Department intends to develop photonics as a major research focus, as part of Memorial University's stated goal to build on existing strengths in materials science and engineering to advance the characterization and analysis of micro- and nano-materials through shared research facilities, and interdisciplinary collaborative research.
