Rapid Prototyping

The Capability

Memorial University’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science has acquired a Dimension 1200es SST 3D printer as well as a Fortus 400mc 3D production system, the only one of its kind in Atlantic Canada. Based on additive manufacturing technology, these machines can create functional parts in thermoplastics directly from 3D digital files. Both offer the ability to quickly build and test 3D prototypes in real-life conditions.

Applications

  • Concept models (for testing form and fit, communicating product designs)
  • Functional prototypes
  • Manufacturing tools such as jigs, fixtures, tooling and patterns
  • Short-run production of end-use parts
