To be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Music in General Musical Studies, a candidate shall comply with the School’s regulations, and successfully complete a minimum of 123 credit hours, including 53 credit hours in the Core Program. The remaining 70 credit hours will be chosen as follows:

Three credit hours chosen from Music Theory courses beyond the 2000 level.

Coached Ensemble/Pedagogy: Three credit hours chosen from Music 2615, 2616, 2617, 265A/B, 3500, 3510-18, 3751.

An additional 56 credit hours to be chosen according to either Option A or Option B below:

An additional 17 credit hours chosen from Music courses beyond the 1000 level, including:

At least 9 credit hours from courses beyond the 2000 level in Music History and Music Theory.

A maximum of 4 credit hours from Music 2611-2614, 2619, 2620, and 263A/B, in addition to those listed under the Core Program.

A maximum of 5 credit hours from Music 2615, 2616, 2617, 265A/B, 3500, 3510-18 in addition to those required under Coached Ensemble/Pedagogy and the Core Program.

Six credit hours chosen from courses in English and/or designated research/writing courses.

A Minor of at least 24 credit hours in a subject other than Music. The candidate must follow the regulations for the Minor as set forth in the appropriate section of the Calendar.

Nine credit hours open electives. These may be chosen from courses in Music, the Minor subject, and/or any other disciplines.

An additional 32 credit hours chosen from music courses beyond the 1000 level including:

At least 12 credit hours chosen from courses beyond the 2000 level in Music History and Music Theory.

A maximum of 4 credit hours from Music 2611-2614, 2619, 2620, and 263A/B, in addition to those listed under the Core Program.

A maximum of 5 credit hours from Music 2615, 2616, 2617, 265A/B, 3500, 3510-18 in addition to those required under Coached Ensemble/Pedagogy and the Core Program.

A maximum of three of the following courses may be substituted for Music electives: Education 2510, 2520, 2530, 3920, 3925, the former 4835, the former 4845.
Note:
Music Education Majors have priority in registering for these courses and spaces may not be available for General Musical Studies Majors.
