The Office of Industrial Assistance facilitates industrial access to a variety of Marine Institute expertise and facilities as well as innovative project funding. The office is jointly supported by the Marine Institute (MI) and the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP). The Office provides a link to a technological expertise network across Canada and abroad. The office facilitates access for clients to the specialized facilities and the technological expertise that exists at the Marine Institute and at Memorial University. In addition through the Office of Industrial Assistance clients can access additional specialized facilities and other sources of knowledge available at the National Research Council of Canada. A teamwork approach to providing client services is one of the fundamental operating principles of the Office of Industrial Assistance.
A partial list of services offered by the Office of Industrial Assistance include:
Providing technical and financial assistance to companies and industry associations who have technical or scientific problems or require research and development assistance in the fields of science, engineering, technology and related business services.
Providing services under the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program. (IRAP), including technical literature searches, patent searches, market previews, technical advice, financial support and other services.
Coordinating of various technical workshops and seminars as required for industry.
The Office currently operates out of three locations, St. John's, Grand Falls - Windsor and Happy Valley - Goose Bay, Labrador.
The major activity or the Office of Industrial Assistance involves delivery of the Industrial Research Assistance Programme.
