Students at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College may take a Bachelor of Arts Degree Programme with a Specialization in Psychology.
Students wishing to complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Specialization in Psychology should do so only after consulting with the Programme Chair.
The introductory Psychology courses 1000 and 1001 are prerequisites for all other courses in Psychology. First year students will register for Psychology 1000 and 1001.
Some Psychology courses require regular laboratory classes. Others may require the completion of research, study projects or field projects.
REQUIREMENTS FOR A SPECIALIZATION IN PSYCHOLOGY
The Specialization in Psychology consists of BOTH a minimum of forty-five credit hours in Psychology [described in Category A below], and twenty-four credit hours in cognate courses [described in Category B below].
A. The forty-five credit hours in Psychology must comprise:
1) Psychology 1000, 1001, 2925, 2950, 3950, 4910, 4925, and one of 4950 or 4951.
2) At least four of the following: Psychology 2025, 2125, 2225, 2425, 2625, 2825.
3) At least nine credit hours chosen from the following Contemporary Issues courses: 3025, 3125, 3225, 3325, 3425, 3525, 3625, 3626, 3627, 3628, 3725, 3825
B. In accordance with Clause 2 (a) and 2 (b) SPECIALIZATION REQUIREMENTS, REGULATIONS FOR THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF ARTS, the specialization in Psychology must include a coherent set of twenty-four credit hours in Cognate courses. Students will choose the cognate courses with the approval of the Programme Chair of Psychology and the approval of the Programme Chair(s) or Division Head(s) of the subject area(s) from which the cognate courses are to be taken. Students are advised to consult with the Programme Chair of Psychology concerning cognate courses by the beginning of their third year of studies at the latest. NOTE: In addition to meeting the requirements stated above for the Specialization in Psychology, students MUST also fulfil all the Bachelor of Arts Degree requirements including those defined in the CORE PROGRAMME. (See Core Programme Requirements under General Regulations.)
REQUIREMENTS FOR HONOURS IN PSYCHOLOGY (B.A. ONLY)
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Psychology at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College offers greater concentration in a discipline than is required for the completion of a general degree while still meeting the Core Program requirements of the Grenfell College Bachelor's degree. The Honours degree also requires a higher level of academic achievement than required for the general degree. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College is a 120-credit hour program normally requiring four years for completion. The following requirements govern the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College of Memorial University of Newfoundland.

2. Course Requirements for Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology
a) Students must meet the Core and Cognate Requirements for Grenfell College Bachelor of Arts degree with a specialization in Psychology degree.
b) Candidates must complete: Psychology 1000, 1001, 2025, 2125, 2225, 2425, 2625, 2825, 2925, 2950, 3950, 4910, 4925.
c) Candidates must complete five of Psychology 3025, 3125, 3225, 3325, 3425, 3525, 3625, 3626, 3627, 3628, 3725, 3825.
d) Honours candidates are required to complete a two-semester research project, Psychology 4951 and 4959.
3. Honours Thesis
The Honours project sequence (Psychology 4951 and 4959) involves the production of an Honours thesis. This thesis will be evaluated by the thesis supervisor and an additional faculty member selected by mutual consent of the candidate and the supervisor.
