The School of Continuing Education provides logistical support on behalf of the academic units toward the management and development of Memorial's distance education program. Specifically, the School acts as ombudsman to part-time and distance education students, serves as a point of contact for students, and provides a student services office for distance education students.
A print component is basic to most distance education courses. The print component is usually augmented with home study instructional resources as well as teleconferencing sessions. The precise combination of educational media employed varies with each course. Courses are also offered via the world-wide web or use various aspects of the Internet.
Distance education courses provide a standard of instruction equivalent to on-campus courses. Students receive full university credit for distance education courses (excluding certificate credit courses of the certificate programmes in Criminology, Municipal Administration, Library Studies, and Records and Information Management).
