The Specialization in Humanities is an interdisciplinary programme offered to candidates at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College for the degree of Bachelor of Arts.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A SPECIALIZATION IN HUMANITIES
Students at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College may complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Specialization in Humanities by successfully completing 120 credit hours including the following:
A. Humanities Core
Students will be required to complete the Humanities Core, consisting of a minimum of 78 credit hours chosen from the Humanities Disciplines listed in Group A. The courses chosen will be determined by the following requirements:
1. Students will complete 48 credit hours: 39 credit hours in TWO disciplines from Group A plus Humanities 3000 (Perspectives in Humanities), Humanities 4000 (Concepts and Issues in Humanities) and Humanities 4950 (Independent Project in Humanities). Students must complete at least 12 credit hours in EACH of the two disciplines. At least 3 credit hours in Discipline One must be at the 4000-level. The possible distribution of such courses will therefore be as follows:
Discipline One: 27 credit hours; and
Discipline Two: 12 credit hours; and
Humanities 3000, 4000, and 4950
OR
Discipline One: 24 credit hours; and
Discipline Two: 15 credit hours; and
Humanities 3000, 4000, and 4950
OR
Discipline One: 21 credit hours plus 3000, 4000, and 4950; and
Discipline Two: 18 credit hours
2. Students must complete 6 credit hours in EACH of the remaining five disciplines in Group A for a total of 30 credit hours.
NOTE: Since two of the courses taken under clauses 1 or 2 above will include an English first year sequence, these regulations also fulfil the first-year English requirement as outlined in the College Core.
3. Of the 78 credit hours chosen to fulfil the Humanities Core requirement, at least 12 credit hours must be at the 3000 level.
B. Social Sciences Requirement
Students must complete 12 credit hours in disciplines chosen from Group B.
At least 6 credit hours of these must be beyond the 1000 level.
C. Electives
Students must complete 18 credit hours as electives chosen in consultation with the Programme Chair.
D. College Core
Students will complete the following 12 credit hours as defined by the Grenfell College Core requirements:
6 credit hours in Mathematics and/or Statistics
6 credit hours in Science Concepts and Issues
In addition to the specific requirements listed above, students must meet the College Core requirements in Literacy and General Education as outlined in the Core Programme Requirements section of the Grenfell College portion of this Calendar.
