Diving practice
Dr. Axel Meisen (L) prepares to enter one of Medicor's hyperbaric chambers with a few last words of encouragement from Dr. Ken LeDez (R), a specialist in hyperbaric medicine. Dr, LeDez, along with Drs. David Behm and Matthew White, Phys Ed, are collaborating on a research project looking at diver work performance at depth. The project is funded by a two-year $60,000 grant from the Canada Newfoundland Cooperation Agreement on Economic Renewal. Dr. Behm'Beam'snal work with the hyperbaric chambers was funded with a President's Special Initiatives Grant. Dr. White said that Memorial University is one of the few universities in Canada that has a facility like the hyperbaric chambers at MEDICOR, that includes a “wet pot” (or water-filled chamber) as well as three interconnected chambers that use elevated gas or air pressure to simulate dives.
