I’m happy to let you know that an agreement between Sorbonne Universités and MITACS has been established. This partnership opens new opportunities to fund mobility and research collaborations between Canadian universities involved in MITACS and Sorbonne Universités, one of French higher education and research powerhouse supported by the “Initiative d’Excellence” in France.

Thanks to this agreement, 2 subprograms are being implemented:

1) Undergraduate mobility program

Students from Sorbonne Universités in the 4th year of their university education will become eligible for MITACS’ Globalink program. They can already apply for a summer internship during summer 2014 through MITACS online application process.

As of September 2014, a similar initiative will be launched for Canadian senior undergraduate students to apply for a summer research internship in one of Sorbonne Universités member institutions, to take place during summer 2015.

2) Graduate mobility program

Students from Sorbonne Universités in the second year of their master’s program and PhD students will be able to apply for a graduate mobility grant to conduct a research internship in a Canadian universities involved in MITACS.
Graduate students (Master’s, PhD) from Canadian Universities involved in MITACS will be able to apply for a graduate mobility grant to conduct a research internship in one of Sorbonne Universités member institutions.
This graduate mobility program will be open throughout the year and will be based on researcher-to-researcher relations. It will be a tool to strengthen existing research collaboration.

The application portal for this program will be open within the next weeks but you can already let your faculty know about this new opportunity to host a graduate student form Sorbonne Universités or to send one of your graduate students to Sorbonne Universités in the framework of an ongoing research collaboration.

Thanks to this pilot project, up to 40 students (20 from Sorbonne Universités / 20 from Canada) will be funded to perform a research internship abroad. We see it as a great step for the internationalization of our students curriculum and for the reinforcement of our partnerships with Canadian universities.
