Research - Condensed Matter Experiment

Fabrication and laser spectroscopic characterization of novel nanoscale materials with particular emphasis on those with photonic device applications. The primary investigative techniques include Brillouin light scattering, Raman scattering and photoluminescence spectroscopy which, collectively, provide information on the elastic, structural and optical properties of the target material. Systems of current interest include single- and multi-layered films (supported and freestanding) of porous silicon, ordered carbon nanotube arrays and porous silicon carbide.
