Zachary holds a Bachelor in Ethics awarded conjointly by Saint Paul University and the University of Ottawa, as well as an MA in Philosophy awarded by Carleton University. He wrote his Master’s thesis on Michel Foucault’s History of Sexuality, Volume 1, focusing on the themes of productive power and the body. His current research centers on a portrayal of Foucault as an ethical thinker. His PhD project will develop Foucault’s view of ethics as an “art de vivre” in relation to the longstanding tradition of viewing philosophy as a way of life. Zachary is a regularly contributing member of the Foucault Circle, having chaired the program committee for the 2015 meeting in Malmo, Sweden. His other philosophical interests include art and aesthetics, the philosophy of history, and the influence of G.W.F. Hegel on 20th-century French philosophy.
