Computers: 3 PC's loaded with a wide range of analytic lab software. One PC is solely dedicated to our Lieca dissecting scope and microscope camera system and another for the flume tank located on the ground floor.
Software: Microsoft Office, MATLAB 8[statistics and mapping toolboxes], Primer 6, Surfer 9, ArcGis, Plankton Identifier, and a suite of statistical programs. We run ADVField and KCAM for our Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter and XYZ positioning systems in our flume tank.
Scopes: 4 Lieca dissection and 1 compound microscope. We also have a new camera system with adaptors for both dissection and compound scopes. The lab also has a Zooscan system for imaging and identification.
Specialized Equipment: A Presens FiBox 4 Oxygen meter, a Unisense Micromanipulator for precise microprofiling, and a 17m flume tank complete with sediment tray controller, Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter and XYZ positioning equipment.
The Ocean Science Facilities: Outside the lab we also have access to a cold room, wetlab, and to a wide variety of flow through tanks for maintaining and rearing animals.
Culture: Variety of aquaria, filters, sediments, buckets and an incubation chamber with light and temperature control systems.
Image Analysis: The Ocean Sciences Centre is equiped with a dedicated image and data analysis facility (IDAF) with high performance microscopy and computation.
Nets: Neuston net (2x1m) Tucker Trawl (2x2m), Ring nets (1m & 25 cm diameter), flowmeters.
Water profiler: deepwater configured Sea Bird CTD (SBE 19plus) equipped with flourometer.
Sediment sampling: Multicorer, Boxcorer, and numerous other substrate sampling devices
