About St. John's

St. John’s is the easternmost city in North America and one of the oldest European settlements on the continent. The city still retains its European influence, reflected in the customs and distinctive dialects of the people.

St. John's is also a progressive city. It is the site of world class facilities and is an active centre for business activity in offshore oil development.

Outside St. John’s are towns, villages and historic sites with a charm that distinguishes them from the capital city. Plan a drive along the coast to see some of the unique characteristics of these communities.

Cape Spear National Historical Site, the most easterly point in North America, is only a 15 minute drive from the city and affords your closest view to Europe!
