As the largest school of music in Atlantic Canada, we have a lot to offer; as the youngest school of music in Atlantic Canada, we offer it with freshness and flair. Music at Memorial is a privilege of extremes: we're big enough to afford large ensemble experiences, exposure to the professional world, the stimulation of competition. From the anniversaries of Haydn, Mendelssohn, Schumann and the Canadian Music Centre to the accomplishments of our remarkable student ensembles, Music at Memorial lights the candles and puts on the party hats. In this 35th anniversary year of the founding of the School, join faculty, student, alumni and guest artists in celebration of the wonder of making music together.
Nov 14 St. Lawrence String Quartet Celebrating their 20th anniversary, the St. Lawrence String Quartet’s cross-Canada tour touches down in St. John’s with a performance of a new work by Atlantic composer Derek Charke, along with the repertoire masterworks that have made their reputation. Nov 19 MUN Jazz Ensemble The MUN Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Bill Brennan, brings you an exciting program featuring works by the foremost Canadian and American jazz composers and arrangers. This show is going to be swingin’! D.F. Cook Recital Hall.
Nov 21 Transfigured Night Arnold Schoenberg’s ravishingly dramatic string sextet is the apex of late romanticism. In this concert by faculty and guest artists, it is paired with Hindemith’s Des Todes Tod and Mozart’s C Major Viola Quintet. D.F. Cook Recital Hall.
Nov 24 Debut Atlantic – Wei/Park Violist Sharon Wei and pianist Angela Park bring the fruits of their ten-year collaboration to the D. F. Cook stage in a recital of treasured repertoire for this soulful instrumental duo. Presented in collaboration with Debut Atlantic and the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre. D.F. Cook Recital Hall.
