School of Music Facilities

The School of Music has excellent facilities that can be booked by both the university community and external individuals and groups.

D F Cook Recital Hall (MU-1045)

D F Cook Recital Hall

The D F Cook Recital Hall is an acoustically rich 296 seat concert hall available for music and speech. With recording and PA facilities, and two 9 foot grand pianos. Also available is a box office/coat check, VIP room and greeting lobby. It is wheelchair accessible with two spaces at the back of the hall.

Petro-Canada Hall (MU-1050)

Petro Canada Hall

Petro-Canada Hall is the School of Music's new concert hall. It seats about 120, and has extensive multimedia and recording capabilities as well as rich acoustics making a very desirable space for a variety of purposes.

Charles W Hutton Choral Room (MU-1032)

The Choral Room is a 130 seat theatre with tiered seating for musical and lecture style applications. It is available with or without multimedia presentation projection to a 9 foot screen through PC applications, visual presenter and most popular audio visual formats. It has internet access and you can even hookup your laptop through a standard VGA connection for presentation purposes. The choral room comes with one 9 foot grand and one upright piano for musical performances.

Eleanor Mews Jerrett Instrumental Room (MU-1034)

The Instrumental Room is a large orchestral rehearsal room and is acoustically treated for recording purposes. The Instrumental Room is used by the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the MUN Concert Band for large group rehearsals. At certain times during the year it can be cleared to provide a large floor space for trade shows and special presentations. The Instrumental Room seats a maximum of 100.

Chamber Studio (MU-1001)

The Chamber Studio is a medium sized rehearsal space with a 6 foot grand and an upright piano. It was designed for small chamber groups to rehearse.

Classrooms (MU-2017, MU-2021, MU-2025)

The School of Music has two classrooms seating 45 and 35 respectively as well as a small seminar room seating 18. Ideal for smaller meetings and as part of a package.

School of Music technicians and assistants are available for all bookings in various roles.
