MUN Wind Ensemble and Choirs

CLICK FOR MATERIALS FOR AUDITIONS, FALL 2013

The MUN Wind Ensemble enjoys a rich heritage of musical excellence, attracting talented brass, woodwind, and percussion performers from across Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and beyond. Historically known as the MUN Concert Band, it was formed shortly after the Music Department was established at Memorial University in the mid-1970s. Presently, the group comprises students and alumni from the School of Music as well as other divisions of the University. The group tours Newfoundland regularly, presenting concerts, master classes, and workshops. It has performed at regional and national conferences, and recorded arrangements of The Ode to Newfoundland and O Canada for CBC-TV. Primary conductors have been Donald Buell, Kjellrun Hestekin, Grant Etchegary, Denise Grant, and Gerald Olson. Its current conductor is Jason Caslor. The ensemble performs traditional and contemporary works for wind band and frequently features student and faculty soloists and conductors. It also performs compositions and arrangements by its members and School of Music faculty. Wind Ensemble is offered as a credit course (MUSIC 2619) for those who qualify. See Memorial University's Academic Calendar for information about credits and eligibility.
