There will be no picketing on Monday, November 13th, 2000, Remembrance day. Picketing will resume on Tuesday, November 14th, 2000. Shifts are posted at strike headquarters. PICKET DUTY – FRIDAY 10 NOVEMBER 2000 THERE WILL BE NO PICKET LINES FROM 10:15 - 12:30 (Friday)TO ALLOW REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONIES AT MEMORIAL TO PROCEED AS SCHEDULED. THERE WILL BE A CEREMONY AT THE REID THEATRE IN HONOUR OF REMEMBRANCE DAY. MUNFA MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND (WITHOUT PICKET SIGNS). PICKETING WILL RESUME FOR THIRD AND FOURTH SHIFTS. There are three conditions to be met in order to be eligible for strike pay: 1. You are on strike. 2. You are not meeting your classes. 3. You are not receiving salary or other remuneration from the employer. Strike pay for the first week was distributed at Strike Headquarters, 25 Anderson Avenue, Tuesday, November 7. You can collect your pay upon signing a declaration that the above conditions have been satisfied.
Conciliator George Joyce has asked both parties to return to the negotiating table on Saturday, November 4th at 2 p.m. DEMONSTRATION There will be a rally in front of the Arts and Administration Building at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 3, 2000. Everyone on a picket line and everyone working at Strike Headquarters should cease strike related activities at noon and move to the front of the Arts and Administration Building. Parking will be available in lots 15 and 15b on campus( these lots are near the Music School) We will be joined both on the picket lines and at the rally by Jim Turk, Executive Director of the Canadian Association of University Teachers, and by colleagues from several Canadian Faculty Associations representing the Defence Fund of the Canadian Association of University Teachers. In Corner Brook, there will be a rally at the main entrance of the picket site at 4:30, Friday, November 3. Rally until 5:15, then return to HQ for a gathering with bar service! Insurance Premiums There are some faculty and librarians who have house and car deductions made from their payroll cheques. We have been advised by Johnson Insurance that their coverage will continue until the end of the strike. Then, they will make adjustments to the payments so that the full payment is eventually made. NOTICE re STRIKE PAY Payday will be next Tuesday, Nov 7. Pay is $50 a day, tax free, weekends included. Information on eligibility will be available shortly. Provisions will be made for those on sabbatical, and other such situations.
