As announced at the rally on Friday, negotiations resumed Saturday afternoon and continued on Sunday. These talks achieved agreement on virtually all non-financial contract language issues. This includes course equivalencies and teaching remissions for research. In addition we were able to negotiate an undertaking by the Board of Regents which will ensure that employee contributions to the MUN Pension Fund will be matched by the employer, and access to the pension fund actuary to perform a study which could be the basis of a separate pension plan for MUNFA members.
At 8:30 Sunday evening, having completed negotiations on language matters, the Administration presented a new salary proposal which is a slight modification of their previous offer. Their new proposal retains most of the inequities seen in their previous proposals, and indeed, makes no attempt to move towards our second salary proposal. The Administration has refused to negotiate on other outstanding financial issues.
The MUNFA Negotiating Committee will prepare a response to the Administration's latest salary proposal and will be ready to meet with the Administration negotiators at 2:30 Monday afternoon. The outstanding issues to be settled are:
Just as we have now completed serious negotiations on contract language, we look forward to serious negotiations on financial issues.
