DAY 8

STATUS OF NEGOTIATIONS:

The tactics now being used by the administration in dealing with our salary and other outstanding demands may be characterized as slicing and dicing.

They appear to be trying to satisfy some demands (i.e., distance education) in the hopes that those whose demands have been met in part or in whole will cease to support the legitimate demands of the others.

It is, of course, heartening that there is movement at the table. Our strike is clearly having a positive effect.

We must continue to demonstrate our resolve to have all outstanding issues settled in the best possible way for all our members.

This strike has always been about fairness for everyone.

STUDENT DEMONSTRATION:

There is a student demonstration concerning the impact of our strike on students scheduled for noon today, Tuesday, November 7, 2000. It is anticipated to last for about an hour. It takes place in front of the new Student Union Building on campus.

We have been invited to attend.

At the request of student organizers who feel uncomfortable crossing our picket lines, we have agreed that the picket lines will TEMPORARILY come down at 11:45 AM.

Those who are picketing at that time as well as everyone else on strike are encouraged to go to the student demonstration. We have been asked not to bring our signs. Please leave your signs at your picketing sites.

Noel Roy, President of MUNFA, has been asked and has agreed to address the students.

PICKETING WILL RESUME IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATION AS PER THE DUTY ROSTERS.
