Collecting Pennies for SPCA St. John's
As part of I ♥ MUNdays, the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, and the Capital Campaign Office, invites all students, faculty and staff to participate in our Kindness Friday fundraiser by donating pennies to the “Million Penny Challenge,” an initiative of SPCA St. John’s. The local shelter is collecting pennies for its spay/neuter program.
Did you know?
- In seven years, one female cat and one male cat and their offspring can produce up to 420,000 kittens.
- In six years, one female dog and one male dog and their offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies.
If you have pennies (or any denomination of money, for that matter!) you’d like to contribute, please drop them off to Angie (Alumni House – Lambe’s Lane) or Jennifer (Capital Campaign Office – IIC-2006).
To boost a competitive spirit, Capital Campaign Director Jo-Anne Nykilchyk will match what the Capital Campaign Office raises (up to $50), and is challenging all other deans, directors and managers to do the same in their respective offices!
In addition, we're also collecting items for the SPCA, including pet food and treats, new litter pans and scoops, blankets, towels, toys, collars, leashes, etc.
Once you've collected money and items in your respective offices, feel free to drop them off at the Alumni House or the Capital Campaign Office by 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, so we can deliver the items to the shelter on Kindness Friday.
All participants can fill out a ballot to win great prizes! Hope we can count on your support!

Teen Challenge Rehab Centre
Teen Challenge's mission statement is to provide faith-based residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres funded entirely by donations providing spiritual, academic and vocational training, equipping individuals to return to society as responsible citizens.
It is an inter-denominational program with a 50 year history – and now operates in 82 countries with over 1000 locations worldwide.
Independent studies have shown that 70% of Teen Challenge graduates were drug-free five years later. Compare this to the approximate 10% cure rate of secular drug treatment programs.
Teen Challenge believes that change happens because of a personal relationship with God and though adopting biblical principles in everyday living.
Many teens in NL are addicted and are looking for answers. It's time we did something to help. Many goals need to be reached before the doors! of this center can be opened in NL:
GOAL 1 – need to raise $100 000 to hire a full-time director and a support worker, and to cover administrative costs.GOAL 2 – start raising funds to purchase a facility and cover 2 years of operating costs.GOAL 3 – search for a property with the right zoning that can accommodate at least 25 young men. They can't look at potential properties until a reasonable amount of cash is raised to purchase the property.
If you are interested in making a donation towards this initiative please contact me. Or you can just come to the School of Pharmacy and give your donation to the secretaries in the General Office.
Visit www.tcatlantic.org for more info about the program itself!
Thank you so much for your help and cooperation!
