Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: Harold Bertram Clyde Lake was born in Fortune, Newfoundland in 1884, son of Philip E. Lake and Edith Purchase. He was educated in Fortune and at the Methodist College in St. John's. He married Sarah Spencer. After working on banking schooners, he went into business, forming a partnership with A.W. Lake in 1908. In 1913, Clyde and his brother Harry formed Lake and Lake. He pursued a career in politics from 1924 until his defeat in 1932. He became involved in many organizations and carried on a fish business under the name H.B. Clyde Lake Limited until his death in 1965.
Scope and Content: This series consists of personal diaries and letters, financial records and general correspondence. Also included are memos, correspondence, financial records and other material relating to Guardian Associates Limited and Guardian Press.
