Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: The Lake Group Limited was incorporated on December 31, 1973, the result of the amalgamation of H.B. Clyde Lake Limited, Gaultois Fisheries Limited, Clyde Lake Shipping Limited, Lake Trawlers Limited, Sarah Shipping Limited and Lake Shipping Company Limited. The directors of the company at the start up were Spencer Lake, Harold L. Lake and H.B. Clyde Lake. The company, which until now, had been involved in the inshore fishery and the processing of fish, moved into the offshore fishery with the acquisition of the Bonavista Cold Storage Company Limited and the Booth Fisheries plant. The company not only acquired new plants but a fleet of 27 trawlers to fish in the offshore.
Scope and Content: This series consists of general files and relates to all companies owned by the Lake Group. Records include correspondence, statistics, financial records, reports, fish prices, vessels for sale, meeting minutes, fish purchases, production and stock reports, charter tenders and other material. Included is material relating to the Fisheries Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Newfoundland Shipowners Association, Fisheries Council of Canada, and contains daily reports from the Newfoundland Transportation Company Limited on the Katherine. Also included are newspaper clippings relating to the trawlermen's strike in Burgeo.

Custodial History: The records were, for the most part, created by Harold Lake during his career as a businessman. After his death, the records were donated by his wife, Mrs. F.E. Robin Lake in 1994.
