Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: Harold Leslie Lake (1919-1994), son of Sarah Valetta (Spencer) Lake and Harold Bertram Clyde Lake, businessman and politician and founder of the firm H.B. Clyde Lake, was born in Fortune, Newfoundland on September 30, 1919. He married Flora Elizabeth Robinson Chafe in 1950, and had three daughters: Ronda Louise (Lake) Parker, Leslie Ann (Lake) Searle and Sarah Jane Elizabeth (Lake) Conklin.

After service overseas in the Royal Artillery during World War II, Harold Lake joined the family fish processing and exporting business, Lake and Lake. In the early 1950s, the company ventured into the fresh frozen fish business by establishing a plant in Gaultois and, in 1955, one in Burgeo, and later one in Englee. For several years Harold Lake and his brother, Spencer, ran the Lake Group of Companies, a result of the integration of companies formed by Senator George J. Penny and later expanded by his daughter, Margaret, and companies formed by H.B. Clyde Lake. In 1980 Harold Lake established Newfoundland Fisheries Ltd., dealing in fish, marine insurance, boats and chartering. He later retired from business, but retained ownership of the company.

Harold Leslie Lake died in 1994.
