Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: The schooner Dazzle, official number 138831, was built at Mahone Bay in 1918. She was 131 gross tons and 106 feet in length. The Dazzle was registered in 1919 at Lunenburg Nova Scotia and owned by James L. McKay of St. John's. She was later purchased by Alberto Wareham Limited of Harbour Buffett who used the vessel in the salt fish trade. She was lost off Ramea, NF in 1930.
Scope and Content: Fonds consists of a Protest, and Order For Survey, for the schooner Dazzle issued at His Britannic Majesty's Consul at Valencia in March 1920. The Order of Survey includes a report of the condition of the vessel after her voyage from Harbour Grace to Gibraltar with recommendations for repairs. The Protest made by Captain James H. Snow concerns the purpose of voyage, and the events that led to the damage.
