Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: The collection district of New London was established by an Act of Congress on July 31, 1789, to include the area bounded by the east line of the State of Connecticut to the west line of the town of Killingsworth and north to the border with Massachusetts. The district of New London was abolished in 1913 and became part of the District of Connecticut.
Scope and Content: Certified lists of crew members on board American vessels clearing the district of New London and bound for foreign ports or on whaling voyages. Shown for each crew member is his name, rank, place of residence, age and color of complexion. In a few instances the height of the seaman is added. These lists are similar to the crew lists of outgoing vessels.
