Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: The Fishermen's Union Trading Company (FUTC) was formed in 1911 by W. F. Coaker's Fishermen's Protective union (FPU) to be that organizations trading arm. At its peak the FUTC had more than 40 stores operating in outport Newfoundland. The FUTC outlived its parent organization operating continuously until 1977, when its remaining ten stores, including the one at Greenspond, closed, and the company went into receivership. Greenspond was.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of four account books from the Fishermen's Union store at Greenspond. A daybook containing accounts with the Fishermen's Union Trading Company, 1914; Men's accounts, 1916; General ledgers, 1918 and 1921. The accounts list individuals from Greenspond and nearby communities who traded at the "Union Store".
