Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: William Roche Sr. (1800-1887), merchant and sea captain, was a resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was the president of the Union Marine Insurance Company and alderman of the City of Halifax (1849-50; 1862-64). His son William Roche Jr. (1842-1925) worked as a clerk of the Union Insurance Company and established himself as a coal and commission merchant and steamship agent in Halifax (1874).
Scope and Content: Fonds consists of a photocopy of a letterbook, 1834-1841, belonging to William Roche, partner in the firm of Roche and Kinnear. The correspondence contains information primarily dealing with cargos and the West India trade
