Scope and Content: 24 account books of 11 businesses operating in the Salem/Beverly area of Massachusetts. The account books, 1658-1833, describe the construction of fishing vessels, the provisioning of voyages, the price of fish and supplies, the organization of production, the export of fish and supplies, the structure of the work force and the consumption habits of fishermen. Some letterbooks and ledgers. The account books of each merchant are described separately.
