Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: The Essex Institute was formed in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1848 as a union of the Essex Historical Society and the Essex County Natural History Society. In 1992 the Essex Institute merged with Peabody Museum of Salem to form the Peabody Essex Museum.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of logbooks, mostly for fishing and trading voyages out of Salem and Beverly, Massachusetts.
