blue velvet dress trimmed with narrow white braid. I knocked to the window for him to come in. As soon as he came in he wanted a tick (stick) for Annie (He calls me Annie). He came in the other day while I was out, and looked under the table for Annie. He always wants this 'tick'. It came about this way. One evening I was cleaning out the long cupboard [sic], & with the old rubbish I had taken out was a stick. Joseph came in the midst of it, got the stick and began running after me everywhere. He enjoyed it so much. Ever since then he wants a stick when he comes in.

After that I began cleaning out the chest. Naturally he wanted to get in. I said to him, 'Fannie doesn't like Dodo'. (He calls himself Dodo). He came along and puts up his sweet face for me to kiss him; but he is a terror when he gets vexed. He says 'bugger' now. Win will have something to do to mind him this summer. You should see him blowing bubbles. He is a very pretty child, so tiny. I was going to take him to Sunday school to day, had there been any Children Service. He followed us up through the path last Sunday, and tumbled down in the midst of the mud and everything. He wouldn't let
