  President Harris announces the establishment of a chair in fisheries oceanography with funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Fishery Products International Limited, and National Sea Products Limited.

  Death of Lord Taylor, former President of Memorial from 1967-1973.

• March 23, 1988
  Memorial's faculty and librarians choose by secret ballot to have the Memorial University Faculty Association (MUNFA) as their official bargaining agent in future labor negotiations.
