At the 2006 Ceremony of Remembrance in St. John’s, Memorial University screened a portion of a new video production of the special ceremony that took place overseas in July to mark the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel.
Entitled Return of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment: The Battle of Beaumont-Hamel Remembered, the video highlights the first return visit of the regiment to the battle field in France where its members fought so valiantly in 1916.
The video was produced by Memorial’s Distance Education & Learning Technologies unit with support from Marketing & Communications.
In order to capture this historic occasion for the university, DELT producer Kevin O’Leary and videographer Joe Earles made the trip to France with the members of regiment and filmed the various ceremonies in which they participated. Editor Cyril Reid worked with the crew to produce the commemorative video.
