Upcoming conferences at Memorial


CU Expo is a Canadian-led international conference designed to showcase the
best practices in community-university partnerships worldwide, and to create
opportunities for innovative and successful collaborations which strengthen
our communities.

CU Expo 2013: Engaging Shared Worlds, is being held June 12015, 2013 in
Corner Brook, hosted by Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland
and the City of Corner Brook, with support from the provincial Rural
Secretariat. The conference is expected to draw 500 people from Canada and
around the world who are passionate about the power of community-university
partnerships as a vehicle for social change. Over the 3 days of the
conference, participants can choose from a variety of interactive sessions:
from workshops to arts activities, deliberative dialogue to presentations,
participatory communications, mobile tours, service learning and more.


The Chemistry Department will be hosting "The 12th International Conference on Calixarenes (Calix2013)" from July 14-17, 2013. "Exploration and Discovery" is the theme of Calix2013.
 
The timing of the conference is planned to follow 8-ISMSC, the 8th International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry which will be held in Crystal City, Virginia, USA from July 7-11, 2013. St. John's is easily accessible during the summer months by direct flights from London Heathrow, Newark, USA and Halifax, Montreal and Toronto, Canada.

Following the successful Calix11 conference model which was held in Tarragona, Spain in 2011, the Program for Calix2013 will consist of 30 keynote lectures (25 minutes + 5 minutes discussion),10 short presentations (6 minutes without discussion) which will be selected from among the abstracts submitted as contributions for the poster sessions, and 2 poster sessions (3 hours total). To make possible an extensive formal and informal discussion and sense of community, the number of participants will be limited to a maximum of 250 and the number of posters to 100. The presenters of the keynote lectures have all been confirmed and their names can be seen at the “Program” link on the calix2013 website.
