Welcome
Welcome to Government Relations at Memorial University of Newfoundland
Memorial University is a publicly funded institution created through provincial government legislation, is open and accountable and, as such, has a responsibility and expectation to interact with governments at all levels.
It is supported largely through operating and capital grants from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. A significant portion of its research activities is supported through federal granting agencies of the Government of Canada.
Memorial University plays a major role and contributes significantly to the municipalities in which its operations reside, notably St. John’s and Corner Brook, but also those smaller municipalities that host specialized units. Memorial has a responsibility to provide services in support of rural, regional and aboriginal communities.
Public Affairs at Memorial University meets the need to expand
understanding of the university through the development of more
formal contact with governments at all levels (provincial, federal,
municipal, aboriginal, international) and to establish consistent
and efficient two-way communications between the university and
government officials.
This website facilitates the flow of information from the university to governments and public officials and from the public sector back into the university.
