Memorial University’s Harris Centre will host a forum titled Fisheries Policy and Rural Revitalization: An Integrated Approach. The public forum will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at 8 p.m. in the Barbour Living Heritage Village, Newtown, New-Wes-Valley.
Keynote speaker, Alastair O’Rielly, managing director of the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation, will discuss the development of the fishing industry as key to the economic restoration of rural Newfoundland and Labrador.
Panelists George Feltham, council member with the FFAW, David Vardy, former president of the Marine Institute and deputy minister of Fisheries, and Gabe Gregory, vice-president, Quinlan Group of Companies, will provide their perspectives on this vital issue.
Audience members will be encouraged to participate in a dialogue on the future of the fishing industry and rural revitalization and to challenge the panel in a question and answer period with ideas for better solutions to the future of the fishery.
