REF NO.: 99
|SUBJECT:||Creston South student receives prestigious internship|
|DATE:||March 7, 2003|
Frank Durnford of Creston South, attending Memorial University of Newfoundland, has been selected as one of the first four interns to receive the CBC Radio Peter Gzowski Internships. Mr. Durnford has an extensive background in English studies and performance, and has a BA, joint honours, in English and French. In 2002, he received the David Kirkland Student Leadership award from Memorial University, and was an inductee in the Paton College Honours Society for Academic and Leadership Achievements.
Mr. Durnford was an exceptional candidate for the Gzowski internships, said Diane Humber, regional director of CBC Radio, Newfoundland and Labrador. His scholastic activities and leadership experience are most impressive, and speak directly to the values of CBC Radio and of public broadcasting.
CBC Radio established the CBC Radio Peter Gzowski Internships in honour of the late Peter Gzowski, to offer training and broadcast opportunities to eligible final-year students in four participating universities across the country. The other successful candidates for the CBC Radio Peter Gzowski Internships are Tiffany Chong of Nanaimo, B.C. (Simon Fraser University); Bethany Or of Peterborough, Ontario (Trent University); and Lindsay Michael of Stratford, P.E.I. (McGill University). The internships will take place from April 28, 2003, to Aug. 29, 2003.
The Gzowski interns will each receive a week of training in the basics of radio production at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto. Each will spend the rest of the internship in a different location learning about the craft of making great radio.
