SUBJECT: Media invited to news conference and media tour of Memorial University’s new Petro-Canada Hall

Officials from Memorial University, Petro-Canada and the provincial government will be holding a news conference and media tour on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 11 a.m. to mark the official opening of the Petro-Canada Hall, a new rehearsal and performance facility located in Memorial's School of Music. Petro-Canada Hall was built with $1.2 million in support from Petro-Canada. Petro-Canada is the operator of the Terra Nova offshore oil field and a participant in the Hibernia and White Rose developments.

Participants in this news conference include: Memorial president Dr. Axel Meisen; Ron Brenneman, CEO of Petro-Canada; Gordon Carrick, vice-president, East Coast Petro-Canada; Tom Hedderson, minister, Department of Education; Dr. Tom Gordon, director, School of Music and Peter Terroux, acoustical engineer. The news conference will take place in the Petro-Canada Hall. Parking is available in area 15, located to the east of the Music Building.

The new $2 million rehearsal and performance hall will be available for university faculty and students and for use by the wider provincial music community. The official opening of Petro-Canada Hall is being marked with an opening concert and four days of celebratory events. Media agencies are invited to send representatives to all events.
