|SUBJECT:||Memorial University's business graduate students took on the world at an international competition|
|DATE:||Jan. 13, 2003|
A team of graduate students from Memorial University's Faculty of Business Administration took on the world and took home a fourth place finish at the John Molson MBA International Case Competition held in Montreal, Que., over the weekend. Memorial's team consisting of Lyne Edington, Gillian Kennedy, Gord Pike, Will Smith, Craig Ennis (alternate), and coaches Peggy Coady and Dr. Alex Faseruk, competed against 29 universities from six countries.
"It was a very close competition and I was pleased with our result. We were able to beat not only Canadian competition but also won over teams from New Zealand and Germany. As usual our MBA students proved to be superb ambassadors for the university in maintaining Memorial's impressive record at this competition which now includes 4 firsts, 2 seconds, 3 thirds and 5 fourths" said professor and coach Dr. Faseruk.
The John Molson MBA International Case Competition brought together over 150 students from 30 universities from around the world. Since 1981, Concordia University has been hosting this prestigious competition in an effort to bridge the gap between corporate and academic worlds.
Student teams apply their analytical, decision-making and communication skills to the issues raised in the case competition and present strategic choices and a detailed plan of action to a panel of senior business executives.
More than 200 senior business executives act as judges, bringing their unique, background, experience and perspective to bear on the participants' presentations. Teams are assessed on creativity, insight and real world applicability of their presentations.
