SUBJECT: Memorial University to hold convocation ceremonies May 26-28, 2004

It's graduation time at Memorial University. Hundreds of students are going to be recognized for their hard work during annual spring convocation ceremonies being held in St. John's next week.
Convocation ceremonies will commence on Wednesday, May 26 and will continue through Friday, May 28, and will be held at the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre. The seven sessions of convocation in St. John's will also see honorary degrees awarded to outstanding men and women drawn from the worlds of business, science, public life and the arts. The honorary graduands include anthropologist Dr. Elmer Harp; choir leader Susan Dyer-Knight; humanitarians Drs. Donald and Elizabeth Hillman; former nursing director Janet Story; Husky Energy president John Lau; Burmese Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and Dr. Bruce Aylward, co-ordinator of the Global Polio Eradication Program. Approximately 1,600 degrees will be awarded at the seven sessions of convocation. There will be three sessions of convocation on Wednesday, May 26 (10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.), and two sessions, at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., on each of May 27 and May 28.
Memorial's president, Dr. Axel Meisen, will deliver his report to convocation during the 10 a.m. session of convocation on Friday, May 28. For further information about convocation, please visit www.mun.ca/univrel/convocation/sc2004/.
