SUBJECT: Public lecture at Memorial to talk about the role of engineering in global issues

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science will host a public lecture to talk about the role of engineering in global issues on Thursday, Nov. 21.
An intriguing panel of engineers who have all worked on global issues will present. The panel includes Ian Froude, former director of Citizen Attache and former manager of Advocacy Campaigns and Network Engagement with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Canada; Darlene Spracklin-Reid, a professional engineer, educator and the co-founder of Together by Design, an organization that specializes in international vocational exchanges and post-disaster reconstruction; Suzanne Hurley, who has managed water and sanitation development projects in Togo, Zambia and Malawi, as well as emergency relief in Southern Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Jonas Roberts, a PhD student whose education has focused on climate change mitigation, adaptation and renewable energy.
This Speaking of Engineering lecture series, hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the S. J. Carew (Engineering) building’s Angus Bruneau Engineering Lecture Theatre, room EN-2006, on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. Admission is free. Parking is available in lot 16. All are welcome. Reception will follow.
