Teaching and Learning Across Cultural Borders
Date: Friday, Nov. 18
Time: 12 p.m.
Location: Junior Common Room at R. Gushue Hall, Memorial University

            Cultural diversity is an exciting challenge for most educators in today's world. How do we teach effectively to a person who may want our knowledge but not our culture? How do we plan a lesson to meet all our goals? Are we ever speaking the same language, in literacy and expression? Can we pursue social justice through teaching? These are some of the topics to be discussed in this Adult Basic Education, and Comprehensive Arts and Science Transition, College of the North Atlantic), Elizabeth J. Noseworthy (ESL Program Development forum-style event. Join panelists Trudy Barnes (campus administrator for ESL, Specialist, Department of Education), Kevin O'Leary (producer/director, Memorial University's Distance Education, Learning and Teaching Support unit), and 20-year-old international student Zillah Muponda, who will share their experiences in international educational settings. Moderator Stephen Jackson (Memorial's Faculty of Education) will facilitate a Q&A period following the speaker presentations.
