REF NO.: 22
|SUBJECT:||Applications invited for position of artist in residence|
|DATE:||Oct. 6, 2010|
The Faculty of Arts is on the hunt for a new artist in residence.
Originally launched as an initiative in January 2009 as a way of connecting the Faculty of Arts with the local artistic community, the artist in residence is an invited position sponsored by the Faculty of Arts, housed with the graduate program in humanities. In this position, the artist in residence works with the students and faculty of Memorial's Faculty of Arts in a variety of capacities.
The artist in residence is encouraged to speak to and collaborate with classes on a variety of relevant topics, such as performativity, the relation between image and text, digital versus analog communication, beauty and ugliness, and the nature of representation or art and global cultures. In this capacity, the artist in residence is encouraged to develop projects which engage or collaborate with the people and disciplines in the Faculty of Arts. Projects which explore and investigate key issues, practices, concepts and methods of analysis in the Faculty of Arts are particularly encouraged.
The position runs for the winter 2011 term, Jan. 6 through April 6, 2011. Candidates for the position of artist in residence must be willing to hold office hours approximately four hours per week. Candidates must also be willing to speak to classes in the humanities and other departments within the Faculty of Arts.
Persons interested in being considered should send a brief cv, two letters of recommendation and a proposal of not more than 1,000 words to Dr. Jennifer Dyer, director, Graduate Program in Humanities, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. Johns, A1C 5S7. Dr. Dyer can also be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 864-3732. The project proposal should outline the nature and significance of the intended work as artist in residence, how it fits into Memorial's Faculty of Arts and how the Faculty of Arts can benefit the project.
The deadline for proposals is Nov.15, 2010.
